Corona Virus and Ayurveda view

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a major problem for the whole world. Coronavirus Could Cost the Global Economy $2.7 Trillion. Here’s How. https://t.co/FkABoP26dp?amp=1blue and red coral reef

Quoting from Al Jazeera: More than 100,000 people (mostly in China) have been infected and more than 3290 people have died (3,015 deaths in China and 267 fatalities in other parts of the globe, most of them in Italy and Iran). At least 1,200 of the new infections are in Iran in just the past 24 hours, the country’s biggest jump since the outbreak began. Iran’s health ministry on Friday noted that 124 people have died.

In France, 200 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed overnight, while India and South Korea also reported an increase in the number of infections.

Additionally, the death toll in the United States from the coronavirus rose to 12 when King County in the state of Washington reported the latest death on Thursday.

There is no cure or vaccine available.
Prevention is the best approach to restrict its spreading.
WHO recommendation on Corona virus infection:
Protect yourself and others from getting sick
Wash your hands with soap frequently and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Maintain social distancing (1 mitre distance) from others. (Note: some infected people may not have any symptom and yet can infect others).
Australian Health Department says: “avoid close contact with others, such as touching”.
. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with uncleaned hands, fingers and objects.
. Practice respiratory hygiene.
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately

. If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
. Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider.
. Protection measures for persons who are in or have recently visited (past 14 days) areas where COVID-19 is spreading
Follow the guidance outlined above,
Stay at home and seek medical help early if you develop fever, cough and difficulty breathing.
. Surgical masks in the community are only helpful in preventing people who have coronavirus disease from spreading it to others. If you are well, you do not need to wear a surgical mask as there is little evidence supporting the widespread use of surgical masks in healthy people to prevent transmission in public. https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-information-on-the-use-of-surgical-masks

AYURVEDA VIEW:
Signs & Symptoms
Corona virus affects both animals and human beings. It displays wide range of symptoms of respiratory to nervous system like common cold, pneumonia, and giddiness. It affects the respiratory system and makes it fail. In severe cases vital organs like heart, liver & brain functions could be affected.
It takes two to fourteen days for symptoms to appear after one is affected by Coronavirus. So what are typical signs and symptoms?
Respiratory system- Sore Throat, Cough, Headache, Breathlessness, Tiredness, Running Nose. Critical cases been detected as respiratory failure, septic shock, and/or multiple organ dysfunction/failure.
Digestive system - Vomiting Diarrhoea with Abdomen Pain.
Muscular system - Fatigue, body ache.
Lymphatic or Immune system - Fever.
Nervous system - Coronavirus causes demyelination in central nervous system & impaired coordination of brain & body.

"We all know that strong immunity is necessary to fight any kind of foreign body or disease. Coronavirus primarily affects the lungs and the respiratory system.
Commonly used herbs to increase immunity:
Amalaki or amla (Emblica Officinalis), guduchi/glioy (Tinospora Cordifolia), neem (Azadirachta Indica), kutki (Picrorhiza Kurroa), tulsi (basil) are some of the Ayurvedic herbs that are helpful in building the immunity and preventing the infection.
In Ayurveda, good digestion or strong digestive fire plays a very important role in fighting diseases. Eat a piece of fresh ginger or drink ginger tea. Mint tea, cinnamon tea, and fennel tea are also good.
People should eat only well-cooked food, avoid spitting in public, and avoid close contact, the WHO said, adding that it is important for people to seek medical care at the earliest if they become sick.
According to Ayurveda, Corona virus disturbs equilibrium of Vata and Kapha dosha. Hence, it recommends Pitta vardhak (stimulating pitta until it balances Kapha & Vata dosha) diet and lifestyle. Food changes, as suggested below, can help to restore these functions back in the body.

a. Have Herb like Fenugreek. It absorbs abnormal kapha.
b. Add Spices in food for e.g. garlic, ginger, turmeric to stimulate taste & assimilation
c. Drink turmeric powder and milk.
d. Eat fruits like papaya oranges and lemons.
e. Avoid cold drinks, ice-creams and cold food.

Ayurveda Therapy:

Abhyanga - Oil massage all over body helps improve blood circulation and stimulates parasympathetic nervous system. The calming effect brings balance in metabolism.
Herbal steam - Herbal fomentations to detoxify fats and lighten body, increases digestive fire and thereafter metabolism.
Nasya - It cleans the nasal track and sinuses, developing immunity.
Niyama - To maintain personal conducts as per guidelines.
Shauch - Personal and environmental cleanliness to be maintained. Clean vegetables properly and drink boiled water.
Svadhyay- Be aware of the symptoms of disease, introspect and seek immediate medical help.

Diet - Eat Satvik and vegetarian food as much as possible. Scientists are still exploring the link between bat, snake and coronavirus, “The only thing that you need to take care of is that the meat has been hygienically cooked and should not be raw, which is the best way to prevent any disease transmitted through animal meat.”

Lifestyle- Stay stress free, in warm regions, walk regularly and sleep well.

Obesity/ Weight Loss/ Sthualya/ Medoroga

“Eating crappy food isn't a reward -- it's a punishment.”

Drew Carey

To me, Mirror is the best diagnostic tool to look into yourself.

I heard saying many people during my clinical practice like I am so fat. My life has changed since I gained weight. I am stressed because I am not losing weight or my relationship is in trouble because of weight gain and so on…

Weight gain is one of the major health concerns around the globe and I believe it should be. Whenever you see a doctor or any health specialist they might ask you to reduce weight if you are overweight. In the modern world, Obesity is not a serious health concern for you but one among greatest challenges to health practitioners as well. If not acted on time, it can lead to permanent Physical, Mental & Emotional health issues.

Look at the statics:
“In 2011-12, 62.8% of Australians aged 18 years and over were overweight or obese, comprised of 35.3% overweight and 27.5% obese.

WHO (World Health Organisation) states that More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults are considered to be obese. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) have extreme obesity. Almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) are considered to be overweight or obese. The prevalence of obesity is similar for both men and women (about 36 percent).

Life Style disorders are always the burning issues in humans since ancient time. Being an Ayurvedic Practitioner (Indian Ancient Medicine AYURVEDA), we focus on the root of the problem and treat holistically with Herbs, Diet-Lifestyle adjustments, and Detox Panchakarma Therapies.

In simple words to me, Obesity is considered from the human Sedentary lifestyle and Nutritional values/Diet, where the body found hard to metabolize the ingested nutrition. Obesity is over accumulation of the fat under the skin and certain organs. It is very easy to diagnose as the bulge of fat can be seen clearly on the body.

To know exact you can refer BMI (Body mass index) formula as weight is not always marked with obesity.
THE English formula to calculate BMI is

 BMI =
  Weight in Pounds
(Height in inches) x (Height in inches)
 x 703

BMI
Diagnosis
<18.5
Under weight
Between 18.5 and 24.9
Normal weight
Between 25.0 and 29.9
Overweight
Between 30.0 and 39.9
Obese
Above 40
Morbidly obese

Obesity consider as one of eight (Nindniya prakrutis) undesirable constitution of the body.

As per classics, the Kapha body type (water & Earth) individuals are more likely to gain weight easily in comparison with  Pitta (fire) and Vata (Air & Space) dominant body types. Accumulation of Kapha leads due to excessively nourished fat and malnourished other tissues end up with poor-disturbed-weak metabolic functions.

The disturbed weak metabolism is beautifully explained in Ayurveda under the concept of low fire (Agni) of digestion. The poor metabolic functions convert food into undigested toxic substance named AMA.

Ama is the product of weak and inefficient metabolism that blocks the channels of circulation. The clogging in circulatory channels leads to over 70% of health concerns like Obesity, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, Fatty Liver, Stress, Fatigue, Myalgia, Arthritis, Low backache, Allergies, Indigestion, Malabsorption, Low Immunity, Low Iron, Cancer etc.

Ayurveda always stresses on the cleansing/ detoxification/ Panchakarma of the body on a seasonal basis to flush the Ama (metabolic residue) out of the body and boost the metabolic functions to achieve optimal health.
Have a look here:

The healthy Agni is the key to health and weak Agni is the root of diseases.

The Basic rules to reduce weight and prevent disease are

1)      The first treatment to treat obesity is “Don’t accept your obesity.”  If you tried and failed that doesn't mean you cannot succeed. Develop a positive and determined attitude and help yourself.

2)   Start your day with sipping of two glasses of warm water.

3)      Be active and start with physical workout like play any sport, cycling, swimming, running etc. if fit to do so. Don’t be lazy to go to playground.

4)      Avoid all Junk fried food, chips, frozen-cold-soft drinks, Alcohol, dairy products, tinned- canned food, ready to eat food, animal proteins, high sugar and high salt intake.

5)      Use plant based food as Plant proteins are easy to digest. Proteins should be taken on moderate amount not more than 14 to 16 percent of daily food intake.

6)      Eat balanced food rather than starving yourself. Ask experts for Diet Schedule as per your routine and body type. In general, avoid Carbs, starchy fatty food and eat more grains, salads and cooked food.

7)      Add spices like Cumin, coriander, curry leaves, liquorice, turmeric, mint, black pepper, cinnamon, garlic, ginger etc. in your diet. They are very helpful to boost up the metabolism.

8)      Improve your water intake and try to have warm liquids in sips instead of drinking cold water and icy drinks from fridge.

9)      Try to spend less time with Mobiles, Laptops at night. Early to bed, early to rise is the key to lose weight. Avoid Day sleep.

10)      Introduce Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation in your schedule as they improve your willpower, positivity and reduce stress. They also very effective in weight loss. You can start with Anuloma- viloma (Breathing Exercises), Kapalabhati Pranayama and Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutes).

11)  Have food in portions and avoid food which your body generally starves. Taking frequent healthy food, small bites and chew longer is another formula to control the appetite.

12)  Read positive books, articles to stay motivated or see experts for more guidelines.
